An Overview of Akwa Ibom State University
The plan for the establishment of Akwa Ibom State University kick-off in October 2000, when the State Government inaugurated a Committee for the establishment of the institution. The University was officially founded and opened in 2010 to pioneer students to start their academic journey.
The first batch of students was admitted into the Faculties of Engineering, Natural and Applied Sciences, Oceanography, and Naval Architecture, and Agriculture. Much later, during the 2011/2012 academic session of the institution, the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences was introduced.
AKSU has two campuses, the main campus is located at Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, it has a confluence with Ikot Akpaden – Eastern Obolo road and Eket – Ikot Abasi highway, while the sister campus is situated at Obio Akpa, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, along Abak – Ikot Okoro Road. AKSU Admission Requirements for UTME Candidates
For a candidate to be considered for admission into the Akwa Ibom State University, the following admission requirements must be met:
- Candidates must have a minimum of five credit passes in subjects including the English Language (SSCE, GCE O’Level, or equivalent qualification.)
- Applicants’ post-UTME scores must reach at least 180 and above
- Furthermore, to qualify to write the Post-UTME screening test, applicants must make Akwa Ibom State University their first choice institution.
- Applicants of the Post-UTME screening test who score less than 180 are not eligible for admission into any program in AKSU notwithstanding how high the scores they have obtained at UTME.
- The last selection process is based on the applicant’s average scores from the UTME and Post-UTME screening tests.

AKSU Direct Entry Admission Requirements
- Candidates must have a minimum of five credit passes in subjects including the English Language (SSCE, GCE O’Level, or equivalent qualification.)
- Applicants can also have either A’ levels, OND, or NCE in relevant subject areas.
- For a candidate to be considered for admission, as a Direct Entry student they must pass the screening exercise.
- The last selection process is based on the right combination of the applicant’s certificates and score in the Direct Entry screening test.
