An Overview of Delta State University (DELSU)
After the creation of Edo and Delta States in August 1991, the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma became Edo State University in December 1991, and as a result, there was a need for the establishment of an autonomous Delta State University, Abraka, which became a reality on 30th April 1992, by his Excellency Olorogun Felix Ibru, the then Executive Governor of the State.
At first, it was a Government Teachers’ Training College during the colonial era till early 1971-1985, the post-colonial era, when it became a College of Education that awarded the Nigerian Certificate of Education (N.C.E.). It later had an affiliation with the University of Benin, Benin City in 1981.
The Delta State University, Abraka, is a State government university with a student population of about 22,000 (in the 2019/2020 session). The leadership of the institution is upon Professor ANDY OGOCHUKWU EGWUNYENGA – Vice-Chancellor of the school. the university has a multi-campus system. They have four campuses:
- The main campus located at Abraka
- The Anwai campus
- The Asaba campus
- The Oleh campus
The University of DeltaState (DELSU), Abraka offers programmes ranging from full-time certificate, diploma, and degree programmes, and part-time evening and weekend degree programmes. DELSU UTME Admission Requirements
For to gain admission as a prospective student of DELSU you must meet certain requirements. The DELSU admission requirements through UTME are listed below:
- Expected applicants must be up to sixteen (16) years of age.
- Applicants must also possess at least 5 (five Credits) pass in their Ordinary Level result (s), in either WAEC, NECO or NABTEB, including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects related to their course of study. Two sitting O’level is not accepted.
If for instance, a student wants to study Medicine, he or she must have credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry,
- Applicants’ scores in the JAMB UTME examination, must reach the institution’s accepted cut of marks of 160.
- Applicants must choose subject combinations that tally with their courses of study.
- The candidate must score up to the required cut-off mark that is required for the course they want to study, in the school.
Admission Requirement for DELSU Direct Entry
The following admission requirements must be met by Direct Entry applicants before they are considered for admission:
- The applicant must present the JAMB Direct Entry form from JAMB’s official website
- The expected applicant must be up to sixteen (16) years of age.
- Applicants must also possess at least 5 (five Credits) pass in their Ordinary level results, in either WAEC, NECO or NABTEB, including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects related to their course of study. Two sitting O’level is not accepted.
- Direct Entry, applicants must have any of the certificates below: OND, NCE, Cambridge A level, IJMB, BSc, and HND
