An Overview of Delta State University (DELSU)

After the creation of Edo and Delta States in August 1991, the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma become Edo State University in December 1991, and as a result, there was a need for the establishment of an autonomous Delta State University, Abraka, which became a reality on 30th April 1992, by his Excellency Olorogun Felix Ibru, the then Executive Governor of the State.

At first, it was a Government Teachers’ Training College during the colonial era till early 1971-1985, the post-colonial era, when it became a College of Education that awarded the Nigerian Certificate of Education (N.C.E.). It later had an affiliation with the University of Benin, Benin City in 1981.

The Delta State University, Abraka, is a State government university with a student population of about 22,000 (in the 2019/2020 session). The leadership of the institution is upon Professor ANDY OGOCHUKWU EGWUNYENGA – Vice-Chancellor. multi-campus system. They have four campuses:
