The school is recorded to be the seventh Federal Polytechnic which was established in 1979 and began its academic activity in August 1979.
It was initially located at Bunue state, the rocky part of the state, that’s the North Bank side in Yola.
As time went on, and according to the instructions of the President then, the school was then relocated to Mubi, that was in 1982, October.

Admission Instruction for HND (Higher National Diploma)
To be admitted into a Federal Polytechnic for Higher National Diploma program, the following are required to be admitted.
- To be admitted into Polytechnic for the Higher National Diploma program, you must have in your 2.50 in your ND CGPA result.
- One more requirement for getting admitted to the HND program is your Industrial Training Experience, your post-ND Industrial Training Experience will be required.
- Your five credit passes in your O’Level will be required for entrance to the HND program
