Brief History On Enugu State University Enugu
When Enugu State University was established, it did not make room for its students to live on campus, because its main campus was in Enugu, while other campuses were located at Abakaliki, Awka, and Nnewi.
The university was the first science and technology school of its kind, in Nigeria. When it was established, it had only three faculties namely, Engineering, Science, and Technology to function at the Enugu and Awka campuses respectively. Deputy Vice-Chancellors were the administrative heads of those campuses.
The university was first known as ASUTECH, but In 1991, after the creation of Enugu State from the old Anambra State the new Government changed the name of the school from ASUTECH to ESUT. However, ESUT still operates with all the identities of the old ASUTECH in its philosophies, aims, and objectives.
When it was time for the creation of Ebonyi State from the old Enugu and Abia States in 1996, ESUT decided to let go of the Abakaliki campus which houses its Colleges of Medicine and Agriculture. And as such Ebonyi State decided to convert the campus into a State University that is today known as Ebonyi State University (EBSU).
Having said that, the Enugu State University has three campuses, one in Enugu, another in Abakaliki, and the last in Nsukka. It also has four colleges, headed by Provosts. The school is headed by Professor Aloysius-Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie Vice-Chancellor. You can visit the school’s official website at Enugu State University of Science & Technology
