The Ogun State Government on the 29th of January, 2005, proclaimed the Tai Solarin University of Education. In the same year but November 2005, the National Universities Commission (NUC) also approved the school to start its academic session. 
The University is situated along Sagamu–Ore-Benin expressway in Ijagun, Imaweje, and Ijele Communities, and it is there, that its main campus is located.
The school was approved as the 76th and the first specialized University of Education in Nigeria. The institution has a very high ranking in Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large. It is 2nd in Africa and 8th in the World, and that is why it adopts the 1-2-8 formula.
Before now, TASUED used to be known as the Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), the Ogun State College of Education that was established in 1978. After Ogun State’s creation in 1976, Ogun State College of Education was the first tertiary Institution to be established by the Ogun State Government.
It was this former College of Education that gave birth to the present university opportunity to take off notwithstanding the huge financial burden of securing a new permanent site.
The vision of the school is to become the most Preferred Education University, especially in the area of preparing educators who will function as leaders in all fields of discipline, while its mission is to unravel a new dimension with quality teaching and learning.
It is also aimed at ushering in a continuous update of the methods and skills of knowledge providers by equipping them with modern technology and services. 
The result of all this will be to deliver skilled and motivated members of staff to meet the contemporary and future needs of Nigeria with the capability to compete favorably in the globe.
The University has been in existence for over 15 years, with four different Vice Chancellors who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the institution. 
The pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olukayode Oyekanmi Oyesiku, led the school from 1st April, 2005-31st to March 2010: after him,  Professor Olusegun Victor Awonusi became the second Vice Chancellor of the school from 1st April to 2010-8th January 2013: and after him, the school experiences a change in leadership, and the 1st Female, who also turn to be the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of the school in the person of Professor Oluyemisi Oluremi Obilade, she led the institution from 9th January 2013 – 8th January 2018. The University has grown in its hands from its inception to greater heights, where it now is.
Right now the administration of the university is on  Professor Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu the Vice-Chancellor of the school. He took up the leadership duty of the school on 19th March 2018 as the 1st Indigenous and 4th Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Post-UTME Admission Requirements For a Four-Year Course

Candidates must have an equivalent of credits in five (5) subjects obtained at one sitting in their WAEC/NECO Senior School Certificate (SSC), and General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O’Level) results.

Applicant must have six (6) credits at not more than two sittings

For Vocational courses, TASUED will  accept National Technical Certificate/National Business Certificate (NTC/NBC) only

 Direct Entry Admission Requirements For a Three-Year Course

  1. Nigeria Certificate in Education (N.C.E.) with at least Merit in 2 core subjects,
  2. GCE A’Level, HND in relevant areas with at least Upper Credit, Cambridge (A level) Certificate, Academic Diploma from recognized Universities in relevant areas are accepted and also plus (1) for Direct Entry. 
  3.  For Vocational courses, an Advanced National Technical/Business Certificate (ANTC, ANBC) will be acceptable

Specific Requirements

  • All the Sciences, Vocational and Technical and Social Science-based courses are expected to have a credit in Mathematics in their O’level result 
  • Those offering English Language must have credit in Literature in English
  • For Mathematics, applicants must have at least a credit in one science subject
  • Applicants must have a credit in Economics, English Language, and Mathematics at the Ordinary Level if they want to study Educational Management 
  • For the study of Social Studies, applicants must have credits in any two (2) of each of Commerce, Christian Religious Knowledge, Geography, Economics, Government, Islamic Religious Knowledge, History, and Yoruba 
  • Applicants must have credit in Mathematics.
  •  If they intend to study Guidance & Counseling with teaching subject options in science and social sciences
  • At least a pass in Literature in English is required of a candidate wishing to study Mass Communication.
