FUGUS Admission Requirements and Courses Offered… The Federal University Gusau is a federally owned and run University situated in Gusau, Zamfara State, and is one of the twelve federal Universities that were opened in states that had previously had none. The University currently runs programs across Arts and Science based specialties.
While the establishment of the University took place on 18th February 2013, the University first commenced Academic activities in the 2014/2015 Academic Session.
The central academic framework of the University is founded upon the laid down guidelines of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) through the ‘Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards’ (BMAS) official structure, including other relevant professional accrediting bodies and partners.
During the inception of FUGUS, the University’s Governing Body adopted the ‘faculty system’ in deploying the development of its main academic framework.
Accordingly, each stage of academic development was billed to span 5 years and to be characterized by the creation of new departments, faculties, and/or academic programs.
However, the University presently has 17 Departments that comprise 27 academic programs at the undergraduate level and intends to develop further and create more faculties and Academic Programmes with time.
The University is currently blessed with a pool of capable teaching and non-teaching staff, and an efficient Governing Body that oversees the affairs of the University.
At FUGUS, students are trained with a sufficient practical and academic methodology that enhances the atmosphere for the inculcation, spread, and application of their acquired knowledge for the overall advancement of the human race.
This is done in a multicultural, friendly, interactive, and conducive environment to ensure intellectual engagement and overall efficiency.
Students who pass through any of the University’s Academic Programmes are trained and nurtured to become solution providers who do not see any challenge as too daunting but are creative enough to proffer efficient solutions whenever required.
Also, graduates of FUGUS are ethically oriented to ensure that in the discharge of their duties to society, they also pursue a much necessary sense of balance and interpersonal realization as all aspects of these are incorporated into the University’s Academic Programmes.

Admission Requirements For Admission Into FUGUS,
All Individuals seeking to pursue any of the available Programs at FUGUS should meet the following requisite conditions.
For those seeking admission to FUGUS through JAMB UTME:
- A minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE) obtained in no more than two sittings.
- Selection of the correct course combination for the intended course of study during JAMB UTME Registration.
- Candidates must have obtained a minimum score of 160 in the just concluded JAMB UTME Exams to be considered for Admission to the University.
- All Candidates to be considered must have registered FUGUS, as their first-choice Institution
- Prospective Candidates must duly undergo the FUGUS Post-UTME Screening Exercise to be considered eligible for admission into the University.
- All Applicants must be at least 16 years in the year of Application.
For Direct Entry (DE) 2024/2025 Students
If seeking Admission into the University through Direct Entry (DE), you must meet the following criteria to be considered for Admission to the University:
- All Candidates must obtain a minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE) obtained in no more than two sittings.
- Prospective Candidates must have passed two ‘A’ level/IJMB Subjects. The Subjects must relate to their intended field of Study
- Applicants must have obtained Passes in JUPEB/A subjects related to the intended field of Study to be considered for Admission into the University.
- Depending upon your choice of course of study at the University, a degree (First Class/Second Class Upper) in a related discipline may also be needed.
- All applicants must also have purchased the FUGUS Direct Entry Form from JAMB. They also must have been duly registered and made all requisite payments on the FUGUS Portal.
- Prospective Candidates must have passed the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma, or any other Advanced Certificate with a minimum of a merit pass
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost of Acceptance Fees at Federal University, Gusau?
All Newly Admitted Students at the Federal University, Gusau are mandated to pay a compulsory, non-refundable fee upon admission into the University.
For the 2023/2024 Academic Session, the Acceptance fee payable by freshers is N5,000 only.
Is FUGUS conducting post-UTME screening in 2024?
Yes
The Federal University, Gusau shall conduct a Post-UTME Screening Exercise to sort out and subsequently admit qualified Candidates.
Currently, the screening form goes for a non-refundable fee of N2000 to be paid via REMITA.
What is FUGUS’s cut-off point for 2024/2025?
The Governing Council of FUGUS has set the cut-off point at 160 for the current session.
As such, all Candidates who scored a minimum of 160 in the just concluded UTME Exams have met the cut-off point requirement of the University for Admission Consideration.
Does FUGUS accept second choice Admission Applications?
No
There are reports that FUGUS accepts second-choice applications. This is not the case as this has been long discontinued.
The Federal University, Gusau does not accept second-choice applications.
