FUTO Admission Requirements And Courses Offered – FUTO, as the Federal University of Technology, Owerri is often called is a federal University of Technology situated in Owerri, Imo State.

This University is the foremost federal University of Technology established in both the South-South and South-East geo-political zones of Nigeria

It was first officially opened in 1980 by an executive fiat and remains the oldest University of Technology in Nigeria.

Admission Requirements For Admission Into FUTO

All Individuals seeking to pursue any of the available Programs at The Federal University of Technology, Owerri should meet the following requisite conditions.

For Those Seeking Admission To FUTO Through JAMB UTME

  1. A minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE) obtained in no more than two sittings. 
  2. Selection of the correct course combination for the intended course of study during JAMB UTME Registration.
  3. Candidates must have obtained a minimum score of 180 in the just concluded JAMB UTME Exams to be considered for Admission to the University.
  4. All Candidates to be considered must have registered FUTO,  as their first-choice Institution
  5. Prospective Candidates must duly undergo the FUTO  Post-UTME Screening Exercise to be considered eligible for admission into the University.
  6. All Applicants must be at least 16 years old in the year of Application.

For Direct Entry (DE) 2024/2025 Students

If seeking Admission into the University through Direct Entry (DE), you must meet the following criteria to be considered for Admission to the University:

  1. All Candidates must obtain a minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE) obtained in no more than two sittings.
  2. Prospective Candidates must have passed two ‘A’ level/IJMB Subjects. The Subjects must relate to their intended field of Study
  3. Applicants must have obtained Passes in JUPEB/A subjects related to the intended field of Study to be considered for Admission into the University.
  4. Depending upon your choice of course of study at the University, a degree (First Class/Second Class Upper) in a related discipline may also be needed.
  5. All applicants must also have purchased the FUTO Direct Entry Form from JAMB. They also must have been duly registered and made all requisite payments on the FUTO Portal.
  6. Prospective Candidates must have passed the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma, or any other Advanced Certificate with a minimum of a merit pass

Frequently Asked Questions About FUTO 

How many questions are in the FUTO Post UTME exam?

In the course of writing FUTO’s Post UTME Exams, you shall be expected to attempt 25 questions within a time frame of 30 minutes. 

The questions are usually drawn from the five core science subjects; Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, and English Language.

Sometimes, the number of questions may be evenly distributed across the five subjects (implying five questions from each subject) but that is entirely the discretion of the University.

Is FUTO conducting post-UTME screening in 2024?

Yes, The Federal University of Technology, Owerri shall conduct a Post-UTME Screening Exercise to screen and subsequently admit qualified Candidates.

The Screening form goes for a non-refundable fee of N2000 

What is FUTO’s cut-off point for 2024/2025?

The Governing Council of FUTO has set the cut-off point at 180 for the current session. 

As such, all Candidates who scored a minimum of 180 in the just concluded UTME Exams have met the cut-off point requirement of the University for Admission Consideration.

What is the cost of FUTO Fees?

The present school fee of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri is N62,000 for New Students. However, old students are mandated to pay N46,000 for fees.

These figures do not include the cost of personal study materials and other miscellaneous expenditures.

Does FUTO accept second choice Admission Applications?

No

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri does not accept second-choice applications.

What is the cost of the hostel fee in FUTO?

There is the provision of Hostel Facilities for both New and Returning Students at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri
