Sule Lamido University
Sule Lamido University is a state-owned university that was founded and licensed by the National Universities Council NUC in 2013. It is a state-owned but public university that is situated in Kafin in Jigawa State. Although the school was established in 2013, the full academic session commenced in September 2014, and in that same 2014, the institution was renamed by a bill that was passed by the state House of Assembly.
The journey of the establishment of the SLU started in June 2010 when a 9–Member Technical Committee chaired by Prof. Munzali Jibril, a former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), was set up by the State Executive Council to oversee the entire project of establishing SLU.
The University was set up to be an ICT-driven and entrepreneurial-orientated institution. From its inception, the University started with a four-phased yet five-year development plan. That means that it will in the nearest future, it will have three (3) Schools, twenty (20) Faculties, and it will also have fifty-nine (59) Academic Departments, and two hundred and sixty-one (261) Programmes considering all the levels the school will have come 2032.
A 10-Member University Implementation Committee (UIC) in May 2013 that was chaired by Prof. Haruna Wakili, was set up by Prof. Munzali Jibril, the then Honourable Commissioner of the State. The Committee was not dissolved rather it served as the University’s Management until the Governing Council merged up together and became one body.
In December 2014, the State Assembly passed a bill that amended the Law by renaming the University after Sule Lamido University Kafin. The Governor signed the renaming of the school into Sule Lamido University on 23rd December 2014.
The institution has the mission to produce graduates with sound character and learning, with the spirit of service and dedication to innovative applications of knowledge aimed at improving the lives of people within the State, the nation, and humanity at large, while its vision is to become a top class University that solves societal problems through the use of stimulating teachings, learnings and research in its environment.
The school administration is on the principal officers while the big administrative cap of the institution rests on the shoulder of Professor Lawan Sani Taura, the Vice Chancellor of the University.

SLU Admission Requirements for UTME Applicants
If you applied for admission into the Sule Lamido University, from the just concluded 2023/2024 JAMB UTME, here are the requirement criteria:
- Every interested candidate should have an acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
- Applicants should also review the JAMB brochure for the correct subject combination that relates to their field of study
- Every candidate must take part in the Post-UTME screening exercise to be conducted by the University and obtain an acceptable score for the program applied for as may be set by the University Senate for them to be considered for admission.
- Interested applicants must have credit passes in five subjects, in the SSCE or GCE or TC II or its equivalent with credit passes in five subjects, a minimum of three of which shall be in the relevant area.
- The aforementioned five credit passes obtained in the O’level should not be more than two sittings including the English Language
SLU Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Applicants
- It is only through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), that all candidates for direct entry admission shall apply.
- To be considered for admission to SLU, interested candidates shall possess at least one of the following qualifications obtained from recognized institutions that are licensed to run them:
- A minimum of a good Lower Credit or equivalent, of a two-year recognized diploma in the relevant area
- A minimum classification of Lower Credit or equivalent, of a two-year recognized diploma plus a one-year advanced diploma in the relevant area.
- A minimum of 8 points in relevant subjects of the National Certificate of Education (NCE).
- A minimum of 8 points in the relevant subjects, of the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Advanced Level Examination (IJMBE).
- And an additional qualification that is considered to have a good match or is equivalent to these by the Senate of the University.
NOTE: Whether as Post-UTME or as a Direct Entry candidate, in all cases, an O’ Level Credit in the English Language shall be required. However, for more information on Sule Lamido University please visit the school at www.slu.edu.ng
