Overview of AAPG

This is a brand that has been promoting geoscience since the year 1967. The foundation has been making provisions for different educational projects and research programs that are in the geologic field for the benefit of the general public. 

The scholarship covers master’s and PhD programs. The scholarship is available for candidates whose research thesis involves the development of petroleum and energy mineral resources or is elevated to environmental geology. 

This grant is offered to candidates based on merit or financial need. This grant does not cover full tuition fees but in part. 

You must note that the grants are not used for capital equipment, room and board, conferences, salaries, software etc. 

The grant covers expenses related to the student’s thesis work like fieldwork, laboratory analyses, etc. 

Application Deadline 

The AAPG grant is meant for all candidates who are in the geology field at their level of thesis. As such all candidates who are interested or candidates who need financial assistance are advised to register for the grants. 

The grant management has announced the 1st of October to be the official opening for applications from all qualified candidates and the 31st of December as the grant application deadline.

Value of the Grant 

The grant covers expenses that are spent directly on the student thesis work like fieldwork, laboratory analysis, etc. The grant is worth $500 to $3,000

Eligibility requirement for the AAPG 

Here are the eligibility requirements for AAPG 

  1. The grants are available to students just twice in their graduate studies
  2. A student with a four-year degree or BSC is not accepted or is not eligible for the grant
  3. Students who are enrolled in a master’s or PhD program or something equivalent
  4. Candidates whose thees research has specific research for the development of petroleum and energy mineral resources or related to geology issues

Steps to Apply for the AAPG Foundation Grant

  1. Download the application and send an email with the completed form to foundation@aapg.org. Please note that you have to include a historical recap and plans of your project.
  2. After your proposal is approved, you will sign a grant acceptance agreement. This is to mean that the grant will be used as proposed. Also, progress reports will be provided to the AAPG foundation and the unused funds will be returned Please note that any unused funds will be returned and once the receipt of this agreement, you will recieive a mailed check.
