Background of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University
In order to reach a greater altitude as an institution, the vision of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University is to become one of the best Universities in Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large, while its mission is to produce graduates with well-grounded, sound, God-fearing minds with an entrepreneurial mentality that will drive research for societal development, with the motto having bearing on learning and to service to humanity.
Since the school was still bearing a government school, on April 08, 2009, a Law that changed the name of the University from Katsina State University to Umaru Musa Yar’adua University. The Katsina State University was established under Law No.7 of September 2006, of the state, it was later renamed and is now known as the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University.
Having the same mindset and ambition, the Government and people of Katsina State’s target were to have, nurture and develop a World Class University that will drive modern Information and communication technology (ICT) culture.
After a lot of processes and logistics were met, the University commenced its first academic programs in January 2007, and this took place at the temporary site of the school located at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic.
The permanent site of the university which is located along Dutsin-Ma Road was commissioned on April 09, 2009, a day after the school was renamed, by the Late President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Alhaji Umaru Yar’adua, whom the institution was later renamed after.
From the time of its inception, it has experienced quality leadership, including that of Prof. Abdulhamid Ahmed, who is now the Acting Vice Chancellor of the school, upon whose shoulder, the leadership of the institution rests. The university has 37 (thirty-seven) accredited courses and it also runs diploma courses too.
