MOUAU Admission… The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture was formed by the Federal Government of Nigeria to serve as a specialized Federal tertiary Institution under Decree No 48 of 2nd November 1992

The University commenced academic activities formally in May 1993 and its first Vice-Chancellor Professor Placid C. Njoku was selected on 27th May 1993, with other key officials being appointed at a later date.

Michael Okpara University, Umudike (MOUAU) is situated in Umudike, a famous agricultural town a few kilometers from the Abia State Capital, Umudike. 

The University is quite easily accessible with its major access road being the Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene  Federal Road, a route that connects the state capitals of Abia, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

The University started its activities at the grounds of the defunct Federal College of Agriculture which has presently been relocated to Ishiagu, Ebonyi State

The University of Agriculture took off proper on 3rd May 1993 when the University took in its inaugural set of students.

At the onset of the University, only 82 students were enrolled to pursue different study programs.

Recent data shows that the university records a student strength of around twenty-seven thousand, eight hundred and fifty (27,850) Undergraduate, Four thousand seven hundred and eighty (4,780) postgraduates, and six thousand nine hundred and thirty (6,930) part-time students which differs greatly from its inaugural students’ strength.

Currently, the total figure of students enrolled in the Michael Okpara University, Umudike is put at around 39,560 students 

The University comprises 11 colleges with 51 departments, sixteen directorates, and two schools.

MOUAU looks to become a center of excellence while hoping to assist the Nigerian population (and even others) by providing accurate and practical agricultural knowledge for positive transformation and enhanced food sustainability. 

The University’s current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe. 

Professor Maduebibisi who succeeded the Late Professor Francis OtuntaOgbonnaya as Vice Chancellor is a professor of no mean reputation who is currently at the University’s Food and Science Technology Department.

He is also the University’s former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and came into office as the University’s Vice-Chancellor on 1st March 2021

The University offers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs (M.Sc and Ph.D.)

The University is a long-standing Institution that has continued to grow steadily over the years and continues to remain a center of learning and character grooming.

Admission Requirements For Admission Into MOUAU

All Individuals seeking to pursue any of the available Programs at MOUAU should meet the following requisite conditions.

For those seeking admission to MOUAU through JAMB UTME:

  1. A minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE) obtained in no more than two sittings. 
  2. Selection of the correct course combination for the intended course of study during JAMB UTME Registration.
  3. Candidates must have obtained a minimum score of 160 in the just concluded JAMB UTME Exams to be considered for Admission to the University.
  4. All Candidates to be considered must have registered MOUAU,  as their first-choice Institution
  5. Prospective Candidates must duly undergo the MOUAU  Post-UTME Screening Exercise in order to be considered eligible for admission into the University.
  6. All Applicants must be at least 16 years in the year of Application.

For Direct Entry (DE) 2023/2024 Students

If seeking Admission into the University through Direct Entry (DE), you must meet the following criteria to be considered for Admission to the University:

  1. All Candidates must obtain a minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE) obtained in no more than two sittings.
  2. Prospective Candidates must have passed two ‘A’ level/IJMB Subjects. The Subjects must relate to their intended field of Study
  3. Applicants must have obtained Passes in JUPEB/A subjects related to the intended field of Study to be considered for Admission into the University.
  4. Dependent upon your choice of course of study at the University, a degree (First Class/Second Class Upper) in a related discipline may also be needed.
  5. All applicants must also have purchased the MOUAU Direct Entry Form from JAMB. They also must have been duly registered and made all requisite payments on the MOUAU Portal.
  6. Prospective Candidates must have passed the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma, or any other Advanced Certificate with a minimum of a merit pass

Frequently Asked Questions 

Is MOUAU conducting Post-UTME Screening in 2023?

Yes 

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike shall conduct Post-UTME Screening Exercise to sort out and subsequently admit qualified Candidates.

Currently, the screening form goes for a non-refundable fee of N2000 to be paid via REMITA.

What is MOUAU’s cut-off point for 2023/2024?

The Governing Council of MOUAU has set the cut-off point at 160 for the current session. 

As such, all Candidates who scored a minimum of 160 in the just concluded UTME Exams have met the cut-off point requirement of the University for Admission Consideration.

Does MOUAU accept second choice Admission Applications?

No

There are reports that MOUAU accepts second-choice applications. This is not the case as this has been long discontinued.

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike does not accept second-choice applications. 

To be considered eligible for Admission consideration, ensure to make them your first choice Institution during your registration.

What is the cost of Hostel Fees at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike?

The management of The University has made provisions for Hostel Accommodation within the Campus.

However, at MOUAU, there are both New and Old Hostels with different price tags.

Students who wish to stay at the Old Hostel are expected to pay the sum of N10,000 while those who wish to stay at the New Hostel are to pay N50,000 for Hostel fees.
