Background of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University

Umaru Musa Yar’adua University was founded under the Katsina State Law No.7 promulgated in September 2006. The University was conceived to serve as a nucleus for the socioeconomic, technological, and political development of the State by producing highly skilled human resources through conventional face-to-face and distance learning modes. 

The Umaru Musa Yar’adua University’s vision is aspiring to be one of the best Universities in Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large, while its mission is to produce graduates with well-grounded, sound, God-fearing minds with an entrepreneurial mentality that will drive research for societal development, with the motto having bearing on learning and to service to humanity.

The whole essence of this was for the Government and people of Katsina State to have, nurture, and develop a World Class University that will drive modern Information and communication technology (ICT) culture. 

It was at the temporary site located at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, in January 2007 that the  University commenced its first academic programs.

The university was later renamed after the past State Governor and the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua. On April 09, 2009, the permanent site of the university which is located along Dutsin-Ma Road, was commissioned one day after the school was renamed, by the Late President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Alhaji Umaru Yar’adua.

However, the administration of the university lies on the shoulders of Prof. Abdulhamid Ahmed, who is now the Acting Vice Chancellor of the school. The university has 37 (thirty-seven) accredited courses and it also runs diploma courses.

UMYU UTME Admission Requirements 

For you to gain admission into the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU) as a UTME student, you must meet the following requirements:

• At the time of application, applicants should be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
• Applicants sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and met the JAMB minimum cut-off mark for the UMYU
• Must have at least five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or its equivalent.
• Credit passes obtained in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or its equivalent should not be more than two (2) sittings
• Candidates must choose the right subject combination for their courses.
• Candidates must take part in the UMYU post-UTME screening exercise
• And must score at least 170 in the JAMB UTME examination

UMYU Direct Entry Admission Requirements 

For you to gain admission into the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU) as a direct entry student, you must meet the following requirements:

• Must have at least five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or its equivalent. Including English Language and Mathematics

• Credit passes obtained in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or its equivalent should not be more than two (2) sittings
• Candidates must choose the right subject combination 
• At the time of application, applicants should be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
• To apply the applicants must get a JAMB Direct entry form from JAMB before the application is made

The following certificates should be obtained by the applicants: OND, NCE, IJMB, Cambridge A level.
