It has and will always be a custom to have a driver’s license, especially for those who currently have a vehicle they are using. Before we apply for a driver’s license, we must first attend a driving school and have our driving training.

Once you are done with your training, you will get a Learner’s permit. That will indicate b that you are accustomed to the rules and regulations of the road and you are used to the traffic rules.

The next step is that you will undergo a driving test which will be given to you by the Vehicle Inspection Officer(VIO).

This test is not just to see your skills, but to see that you have learned those traffic rules just as you’ve been trained.

Once you pass, you will be given a Certificate of Proficiency by the Vehicle Inspector Officer(VIO).

After you have gotten your Certificate of Proficiency, you can proceed to apply for the driver’s license, by filling out the form at the Driver License Center. (DLC).
Afterward, you pay for the License, either you pay it online or you go to the bank and make your payment.
When all of that is done, you can apply to the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) Officer.
When you have submitted your application, you will get a temporary license, which will last for two (2) months.
Whilst you are using this temporary License for two months, when your permanent License is ready, you will be called by the Board of Internal Revenue for your permanent License.

To check through SMS, you will have to follow the steps below:

First of all, go to your SMS App, then type NDL STATUS License Number, after typing that, you will have to send the SMS to this number 33811

Here is an example of what I mean, In your SMS App, type ‘NDL STATUS License Number” and send it to 33811.

When you have sent the SMS, You will receive an SMS about your Driver’s license, if it is ready you will be informed about it, if not you will be informed about it.

For those who have gotten a text that it is ready, you will just have to go to the Federal Road Safty Corps Office

While those who have not gotten a text that says their Driver’s license is ready will have to wait.

With this, you will know if you need to go to the Federal Road Safety to check if your driver’s license is ready or not.

NOTE: Please be notified that this method can be done using any kind of network in Nigeria. By sending the text, you will be charged N50, which will serve your transport from going to the office to check.

Here is another method to check a driver’s license. What we do is visit the official website of Federal Road Safety and follow the commands – https://www.nigeriandriverslicense.org

When you have opened the site, you will see Track DL Application Status, you click on the Track Driver’s License Application Status.

After clicking on the Track DL Application Status, you will be required of your ID and your Date of Birth, when that happens, type in your means of Identification and your Date of Birth.

After typing out your ID and Date of Birth, click on the search button and wait for it to load.

While waiting, the information about your Driver’s License will be displayed on the screen, if your Driver’s license is ready, it will let you know, and you can go for it.

But if it is not ready, then you will be notified that it is not yet ready, then you will have to wait a little longer.
