Brief On Ignatius Ajuru University of Education

The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education started with Dr William Maxwell Jnr, as its leader. He was a USAID representative sent to Rivers State, and the University all started as an Advanced Teachers’ Training College on 14th June 1971.

It was as a result of inadequately trained teachers for the expansion of post-primary education in River State in 1970 after the civil war, that gave birth to the Advanced Teachers Training College. 

In 1975, the promulgation of Edict No 1 on  25th February of the same 1975, upgraded the training centre to Rivers State College of Education. And the principal of the school Mr Emmanuel Aguma became the first Provost of the new College.

The first graduation ceremony of the college took place on 11th March 1978, and 462 students from four different sets received Certificate in Education.

In 1982, affiliated with the University of Ibadan to offer a Bachelor of Education degree programme for students. So, in that same 1982, the College admitted its first candidates for the Bachelor of Education degree programme 

But since the vision of the founding fathers was to have its own autonomous university that will award a degree, the college was upgraded again to a University, under the University of Education Law 

However, it was on October 20, 2009, that His Excellency, Rotimi Chibike Amaechi, the governor of Rivers State, officially pronounced the institution a university.

But in 2010 it was renamed Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, in honour of a one-time Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council, the person of late Ambassador Ignatius Ajuru, who championed the upgrading of the College to a University.

IAUE Post-UTME Admission Requirements

  • Candidate Must have a minimum of 5 credits in the Ordinary Level certificate examinations, (WASCE/GCE/NECO) 
  • Must not be more than 2 sittings.
  • Aspirant Must access the JAMB brochure for the correct JAMB subject combination for their course.
  • Must score at least 160 in the just concluded JAMB UTME examination to be considered for the offer of admission into IAUE.
  • Candidate should make IAUE his/her First Choice of Institution
  • Must register and write the IAUE Post UTME/Screening examination to be qualified for admission
  • And they Must have reached 16 years old and above before the application is accepted

IAUE Direct Entry Admission Requirements

  • Candidate Must have a minimum of 5 credits in the Ordinary Level certificate examinations, (WASCE/GCE) 
  • Must not be more than 2 sittings.
  • Aspirant Must obtain ‘A’ level/IJMB passes in two subjects that are related to the area of their course of study.
  • Must have a degree of First Class/Second Class Upper, in relation to the area of their course of study.
  • Candidate Must obtain a Direct Entry form through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and IAUE Portal likewise
  • Must have a minimum of Merit Pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and other advanced level certificates.
  • Aspirant Must make IAUE his/her First Choice of Institution, but if not can also change to IAUE
  • Must have reached 16 years of old and above before application is accepted

Post-UTME Screening Date

Now, concerning the date for the IAUE Post-UTME screening for the 2023/2024 academic year, I like to let you all know that the registration of the Post-UTME form has just started, but the screening date has not been fixed by the management of the school.

However, have it in mind that the screening exercise will commence immediately after the registration window is closed, and that will be between August and October of this year. All things being equal, we will update you when the date is fixed.

IAUE Post-UTEM Application Procedures

When you want to apply for your IAUE Post-UTME, follow these steps:

  • Log into the University’s official Website at www.iauoe.edu.ng
  • Click on 2023/2024 UTME Screening on the admission menu
  • Click on Register for 2023/2024 UTME Screening from the pop-up page
  • Then enter your JAMB Registration Number
  •  Then click Register.
  • Your existing details will appear if you chose IAUE as your first choice
  • Check if your details are correct then, if yes click on confirm.
  • Enter all that is required in the space provided ( Phone No, Email)
  • Then click on submit
  • immediately, you will receive an SMS and E-mail containing your details, and will also display on the page for you to copy.
  • Login again and enter your username and password sent to your email/phone.
  • Follow the instructions and change your password, and remember to save your new password.
  • After clicking on Pay Screening Fees from your menu
  • Click again on Pay for UTME Registration tab
  •  Then click on Generate Invoice
  • Confirm your Invoice
  • Click on Proceed to Pay
  • After that Print your invoice.
  • You can pay with your ATM, or pay at the bank
  • When you are done with the registration 
  • Print your Registration Slip as evidence of payment.
