10 Tuition-Free Universities In Europe – It is no more news that a multitude of students from all over the world travel to Europe annually to gain access to quality Education.

2024 List of the 10 Tuition-Free Universities in Europe for Foreign Students

1. The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich

This public research University is located in the heart of Munich, (in the state of Bavaria), Germany.

It is the country’s sixth-oldest operating university.

Originally opened in Ingolstadt in the year 1472 by Duke Ludwig IX of Bavaria-Landshut, the university was transferred in 1800 by King Maximilian I of Bavaria to Landshut when the city was threatened by the French attempt at Invading Germany.

This was prior to its relocation to its present-day location in Munich in 1826 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria. 

The university was officially renamed Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in 1802 by King Maximilian I of Bavaria in honor of himself and Ludwig IX.

LMU is currently the second-largest university in Germany in terms of the student population; in the 2018/19 winter semester, the university recorded a total figure of some 51,600 matriculated students. 

Of these, 9,424 were freshmen while international students totaled 8,875 or approximately 17% of the student population.

2. The Technical University of Munich

A public research university in the city of Munich, Germany established in 1868, the Technical University of Munich specializes in engineering, technology, medicine, as well as applied and natural sciences.

In the 2023 “THE World University Rankings”, Technical University of Munich clinched the 30th overall position and was the top university in the EU.

Resultantly, it is the first university in Germany to come tops in all three of the most prestigious international rankings: alongside the “THE Rankings”, in the “QS Rankings” and the “Shanghai Rankings”.

3. Humboldt University of Berlin

This Institute is a German public research university situated in the central area of Mitte in Berlin. 

It was established by Frederick William III as the then University of Berlin (Universität zu Berlin) in 1809,

4. RWTH Aachen University

Also known as the Rhine-Westphalia Technical University of Aachen, this public Research University is located in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

5. The University of Hamburg

UHH – as the University of Hamburg is also known – is a public research university in Hamburg, Germany. 

It was founded on 28 March 1919 and the university’s main campus is located in the central district of Rotherham, with partner institutes and research outlets distributed around the city-state.

They run over 100 University programs including Medical, Engineering, and Natural Sciences amongst others.

Norway is also another Country that offers highly subsidized tuition fees to International Students.

6. University of Tromsø

More formally known as The Arctic University of Norway, the University of Tromsø is a state university in the nation of Norway.

This University was established in 2005 when the former Stavanger University College (Høgskolen i Stavanger; HiS) was conferred university status.

This public research university is located in Oslo, Norway. 

It is the highest-ranked and oldest-established university in Norway.

9. The University of Agder

Formerly known as Agder College and Agder University College, this public university has campuses both in Kristiansand and Grimstad, Norway. 

The institution was created as a university college (høgskole) in 1994 through the amalgamation of the Agder University College and five more colleges, a technical college and a nursing school, inclusive. 

It was conferred the status of a full university in 2007.

This is a university college situated in Viken county, Norway. 

It has campuses in Fredrikstad and Halden.

It also has around 7000 students (as of 2017) and 550 employees (as of 2017).
