UNIBEN Admission Requirements And Courses Offered 2024

This university was created on the 23rd day of November 1970 by the military administration of the then leader of the Mid-west region, Colonel Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia.

However, UNIBEN first started as The Midwest Institute of Technology.

The university became a functional university after it attained university status on 1st July 1971, after which the name was changed to the University of Benin.

But the Nigerian Federal Government took control of the institution on 1st April 1975.

Of the institution’s pool of ten vice-chancellors, it has been graced to have two of them as females. One of them, Professor Grace Alele-Williams who was appointed as the University’s vice-chancellor in 1985 also happens to be Nigeria’s first female vice-chancellor with the second female vice-chancellor being Professor Lilian Imuetinyan Salami.

Right from its inception, the University of Benin has continually bokeh grounds and records to ensure its delivery of quality teaching, research, learning, and community development services.

The University of Benin currently runs undergraduate as well as postgraduate academic programs with students being admitted from all parts of the world.

The university’s current vice-chancellor is Professor Lilian Imuetinyan Salami who is also the university’s second female vice-chancellor in history.

The university’s current registrar is Mr. Ademola A. Bobola.

Admission Requirements For Admission Into UNIBEN 

If you intend to pursue an academic program at UNIBEN, read on to find out what Admission requirements you must meet to be eligible for admission at the prestigious institution.

These requirements are for both UTME candidates and Applicants who seek admission through Direct Entry.

For those seeking admission to UNIBEN through JAMB UTME:

• Prospective candidates must possess a minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE) that were obtained in no more than two sittings. 
• Ensure that you select the correct course combination for your intended course of study during JAMB UTME Registration as not doing so may result in disqualification.
• Candidates must have obtained a minimum score of 200 in the just concluded JAMB UTME Exams to be considered for Admission to the University.
• All Candidates to be considered for admission at the university must have registered UNIBEN, as their first-choice Institution
• Prospective Candidates must duly undergo the UNIBEN  Post-UTME Screening Exercise to be considered eligible for admission into the University.
• All Applicants must be at least 16 years old at the time of admission application.

For Direct Entry (DE) 2024/2025 Students

Do you wish to get admitted at UNIBEN but through Direct Entry and would love to know what requirements you must meet to be considered for admission at the University.

Read on as we have outlined the university’s updated requirement list for their DE admission candidates.

UNIBEN Direct Entry candidates’ admission requirements include:

• All candidates that intend to be admitted at the university through DE must have obtained a minimum of 5 O’Level Credits (SSCE/GCE), in no more than two sittings.
• Candidates that wish to be admitted into this institution through Direct entry must have passed two IJMB/’A’ Level Subjects. However, the subjects in question must be closely related to the intended course of study.
• Applicants who wish to be admitted through JUPEB, must have obtained passes in JUPEB/A subjects related to the intended field of Study to be considered for Admission into the Institution.
• All applicants must also have purchased the UNIBEN Direct Entry Form from JAMB. They also must have been duly registered and made all requisite payments on the UNIBEN Portal.
• In addition, candidates seeking admission into UNIBEN must have passed an advanced certificate such as a National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), or any other with a minimum of a merit pass

Is UNIBEN conducting post-UTME screening in 2024?

Yes. 

The University of Benin, a foremost institution of higher learning in the country administers Post UTME screening for applicants who wish to complete an academic program at the university and would be doing so in 2023/2024.

However, UNIBEN’s Screening form goes for a non-refundable fee of N2,000

Does UNIBEN accept second choice Admission Applications?

No

UNIBEN does not accept second-choice entries in UTME and must be added as a first-choice institution during UTME registration if you must be considered for admission at the institution.

If you have not added this institution as your first choice institution of study, then you shall have to change it by duly applying for a change of course.
