New Curriculum for University Education as Approved by the Federal Government

In order to reflect the 21st-century standard of education, the federal government of Nigeria has decided to unveil a new education curriculum for all the Universities in the country.

When was the New Curriculum Unveiled? 

The new University curriculum was unveiled in 2022. The unveiling was made by the former Vice president of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. 

Why did the federal government approve of the introduction of a new education curriculum? 

The introduction of the new curriculum was through the recommendation of the National Universities Commission, stating that it was a way of making university education more responsive to the needs of our nation Nigeria.

The National University Commission (NUC), introduced the new curriculum, which is known as Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS) in 2022, to replace the old curriculum which was known as Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard (BMAS), which has been in use for so many years now, since 2007.

Commencement of the New Curriculum

When will the new University curriculum take effect in the different Universities in the country? According to the National University Commission (NUC), the new curriculum (Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standard, CCMAS), will commence in September, for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The New Faculties Introduced by the Federal Government

In the course of unveiling a new curriculum for the Nigerian education University, the federal government through the approval of the National Universities Commission has also added new faculties to the existing ones, they are as follows;

  2. Faculty of Agriculture

  4. Faculty of Administration and Management
  5. Faculty of arts and humanities
  6. Faculty of Engineering Aerospace
