When you are choosing a course of study in the University, consider the course that you have passion and much interest in.

It is very necessary that you study what you love, that way, you will be able to stand for it, even if you find some difficulties. It may not be the all-in-all reason, but it is the first and most important factor you should consider.

You may have a series of passions but narrow it to what is more viable and passionate to you.

Accreditation 

This is another factor that you have to consider before you settle for that course. The question is, ‘Is this course accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), in the University that I have chosen as my choice institution?

Why is this important? The point is that there are so many Universities that offer some courses that are yet to receive accreditation from NUC, and at the end of their study, they will realize that their course was not accredited, and it will turn out to be a waste of time and resources.

Institution’s Reputation

There are so many universities in Nigeria, but all of them don’t have the same reputation. They are not the same in ranking and don’t have the same academic portfolio.

What it means is that some Universities are rated to be better than others, so find out if the University is a high rating University that their result can be accepted by any firm in the country after graduation.

Academic Programs

Now you have to find out the academic programs that are offered at the University. Does their curriculum over your course of study?

Do they have good and competent lecturers who handle those courses? And the course offered must be what is needed for you to come out as a professional in that field.

Cost of Education

All the courses are not the same in the cost of study. Some courses are the most expensive, in both the payment of school fees and so many other things.

For instance, there are courses like Engineering, Law, Medicine, and Surgery, Pharmacy are courses that demand so much money.

The cost of buying textbooks for this course is very high, and their school fees are expensive compared to some other courses. 

So it is important for you to know if you will be able to pay the school fees for the course that you have chosen.

Career Job Opportunities

Taking a course that you are passionate about is one thing but getting the one that you will find a job to do after graduation is another thing altogether. 

Ask yourself, what does the market look like? Are there several sources that I can get jobs to do when I am done?

Whether you are passionate about a course or not, at the end of it all you will need to make money and end a living from that course you study.

You also have to take into consideration the infrastructure and the facilities that the University has, before you decide on a course.

There basic infrastructures and facilities that universities are are expected to have so that students can have a comfortable environment for studies. These include high-tech playgrounds, with modern classrooms, awesome libraries, and state-of-the-art labs.

Most times, as a student, you will always consider the fact that you have passion for a particular course, and that settles it. The important question is what do you know about the course you want to study in the school?

Meeting the admission requirements of the course you choose should be something you consider before you choose the course.

You have to find out how expensive the tuition fee is. Is it cheap or too expensive for you to pay?

Another thing you have to do, before you take a course is for you to talk to someone who is already doing the course. 

He/she is studying the course and must have had much idea about how the course works, you can get a very good update from the person that can help you make your own decision.

Consider the areas you performed well

When considering a course, ensure that it has a relationship with the course you know that you were doing well during your secondary school.

If you did well in courses like Literature, Government, English Language, and others, know that you have to choose a course that will involve those courses, because you will do well in them.
