What is scholarship?

Before I move to the main discussion, let me see what scholarship means at first.

In a very simple way, a scholarship is money that is awarded to a student by a University or other organization for excellent performance.

This money is awarded to a student who performs well but doesn’t have enough funds to further their education.

On the other way round, they are offered to students by their government.

In so many cases, scholarships and grants are used interchangeably.

Scholarship application form

Every student who applies for any scholarship must fill out the online form that carries all the essential information about the person.

However, the application form will be needed from you when you go for screening. They would like to verify information like:

  • Your full name,
  • Contact information,
  • Academic history,
  • And extracurricular activities.
  • Contact details,

NOTE: if it happens that there is misleading information in the form, you are bound to be rejected.

English Proficiency Letter

You will be required to present a document that satisfies your ability to speak good and standard English. Your English proficiency document is one document that you must have intact.

The following are the different English test scores required by different Universities:

  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT),
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE),
  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT),
  • American College Testing (ACT), GPA,

Other recommendation tests like

  • For Spanish: DELE
  • For French: DELF/ DALF
  • For German: DSH, Test DAF, OSD, TELC

If your previous school did not offer English, then you need to write the English proficiency test.

This is an International English Language Testing System, that you must undergo before you will be qualified to continue with your scholarship. It is known as IELTS & Test of English as a Foreign Language, or Duo-lingo English Test

International passport /Identity Card

You must have an international passport that will last for at least six months after your departure.

It is a travel document (passport), that shows your identity and nationality. This document allows you to cross over to another country, after you have applied and get it.

Statement of purpose/Motivation letter

This is also called a motivation letter. It is a one-page statement that has about 400 words, explaining why you choose to apply to a particular University.

This will also state why you choose a course and how it relates to your life goals and ambitions.

You need all honesty when writing your statement of purpose, there is no need to hyperbolize it.

Academic transcripts

You will need to forward to the University that want to offer you the scholarship.

Your transcript is a document that shows the record of your academic performance in the last high school, college, or University you attended.

If the transcript is translated from other languages, then you need to submit only the one translated into the English language.

It is through this document that the selection committee will see your achievement and also assess your credibility.

Recommendation letter

A Letter of Recommendation is a document that is written by those who are close to you or those who know you very well.

Make sure that it is someone who supervises your work, and that can say something credible about you in the letter. Someone who doesn’t know you well will not be able to recommend you.

This letter is written for instance by your teacher, lecturer, employer, and others who know your ability and who you truly are.

This letter explains certain key information about you such as

  • Your skills,
  • Intellectual capacity
  • Your contributions
  • And your achievement

Curriculum vitae/Resume

Another important document that you need to present to your scholarship institution is your curriculum vitae.

Your curriculum vitae or resume is a document that will speak more about your achievements, qualities, and skills.

If well crafted, it is going to serve as a means of creating the first impression on the selection committee and make you stand out from all others.

It is possible that you don’t have any job experience for now, in that case, you have to include your study experiences, hobbies, interests, achievements, and social skills.
