Background of Sule Lamido University

Sule Lamido University is a state-owned but public university that is situated in Kafin in Jigawa State. The University is a state-owned university that was founded and licensed by the National Universities Council NUC in 2013. The school was established in 2013, and in September 2014, it commenced its full academic session, and that same 2014, the state House of Assembly of Jigawa state passed a bill and renamed it after Sule Lamido.

In June 2010, a former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), for the sake of achieving the goal of establishing the Sule Lamido University, set up a 9–Member Technical Committee chaired by Prof. Munzali Jibril, of the then State Executive Council to oversee the entire project of establishing the institution.

After all said and done, the University was structured as an entrepreneurial-orientated institution, that is driven by ICT. From its inception, the University started with a four-phased yet five-year development plan. The aim was to ensure that at the end of 2032, the school will have three (3) Schools, twenty (20) Faculties. and it will also have fifty-nine (59) Academic Departments, two hundred and sixty-one (261) Programmes, considering all the levels in the school.

Later in May 2013, a 10-Member University Implementation Committee (UIC), was set up by Prof. Munzali Jibril, the then Honourable Commissioner of the State chaired by Prof. Haruna Wakili, to manage the institution. The Committee was not dissolved rather it served as the University’s Management until the Governing Council merged up together and became one body.

In December 2014, the State Assembly passed a bill again that amended the Law by renaming the University after Sule Lamido University Kafin.  The Governor signed the renaming of the school into Sule Lamido University on 23rd December 2014.

Since then, the school has been one of the best universities in Nigeria. its vision is to become a top class University that solves societal problems through the use of stimulating teachings, learnings, and research in its environment, its mission statement is to produce graduates with sound character and learning, with the spirit of service and dedication to innovative applications of knowledge aimed at improving the lives of people within the State, the nation and humanity at large, while 

Today, the school administration is on the principal officers while the big administrative cap of the institution rests on the shoulder of Professor Lawan Sani Taura, the Vice Chancellor of the University.

  • To qualify for admission, they must obtain an acceptable score for the program applied for as may be set by the University Senate
  • Five (5) credit passes in five subjects, in the SSCE or GCE or TC II or its equivalent, not less than three of which shall have bearing with their area of specialization
  • The five credit passes obtained in the O’level should not be more than two sittings, English Language inclusive.

SLU Post UTME Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Students

  • Direct entry students cannot apply for admission through any other means except through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). 
  • Interested candidates for SLU admission, shall possess at least one of the following qualifications obtained from recognized institutions that are licensed to run them:
  • Not lesser than a Lower Credit or its equivalent, of a two-year recognized diploma in the relevant area would be accepted
  •  Not lesser than a Lower Credit or its equivalent, of a two-year recognized diploma plus a one-year advanced diploma in the relevant area shall be accepted.
  •  No lesser than 8 points in relevant subjects of the National Certificate of Education (NCE), would be accepted
  • No lesser than 8 points in the relevant subjects, of the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Advanced Level Examination (IJMBE), would be accepted
  • And an additional qualification that is considered to have a good match or is equivalent to these by the Senate of the University.

NOTE: Notwithstanding how you are applying, whether as a Post-UTME or as a Direct Entry candidate, in all cases, in O’ Level you must have a Credit in the English Language.   • Pay the sum of Two Thousand Naira (N2,000.00) Screening Fee via REMITA

  • Select Sule Lamido University,
